Choccolocco Park is celebrating its 10th anniversary and the best from across the nation continue streaming to Oxford in search of athletic glory and adding to the prominence of the region’s premier sporting complex.
The 2026 edition of “Championship May” is underway as the park has begun hosting seven major championship series welcoming officials, athletes, families, friends, and fans.
Collegiate Conference of the South began the month bringing six teams from Mississippi, Georgia, Tennessee, and Alabama to the ballfields in search of a softball championship crown.
At the end of four days and eleven games, Bellhaven University from Jackson, Mississippi, left Choccolocco Park holding the conference trophy over their heads.
Nine Gulf South Conference baseball teams travelled from Mississippi, Tennessee, Alabama, and Florida in search of their conference trophy over a span of five days and ten games on Signature Field, with the team from the University of West Florida from Pensacola leaving as GSC baseball champs.
The Gulf South Conference softball teams took over the field the beginning the next day, May 6, for a five-day run leading to the conference’s softball championship trophy.
Lee University from Cleveland, Tennessee, was one of the GSC baseball teams chasing a championship, and they added to the many accolades which have been voiced about Choccolocco Park.
“We have had a great time here,” said Lee University athletics communications director Philip Tang. “This is really quite a place to play.”
There is still much more to come as Championship May continues.
The Alabama Community College Conference (ACCC) Baseball District Championship is scheduled for May 7-10.
The Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) Baseball and Softball Championships play ball on May 18-22.
The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division I Softball World Series is set May 25-30. Bracket and matchups will be announced on the NJCAA Network on Tuesday, May 19th at 5:30 PM CST.
“These tournaments validate the foresight of former Mayor Leon Smith and the city council in constructing the park and our continued support of this venue, which benefits our entire region in so many ways,” said Mayor Alton Craft. “It also speaks volumes about the professionalism of our park staff and the welcoming nature of the citizens of Oxford that once these athletic associations have played here, they make the decision to return year after year.”
