Choccolocco Park had a long stream of pink running around its lake as the sixth annual Pink Heals of Eastern Alabama Cancer Runaway 5K Run/Walk was held Saturday, September 5, 2026.
The pink fire trucks of Pink Heals have become familiar sights in the area as they continuously make appearances to raise awareness of those with cancer, although the mission has expanded to aid those with other life-threatening diseases.
More than 65 participants – double last year's number – donned their best running gear to raise funds for families facing the pain and pressure of these ominous diseases.
“This really is an incredible crowd,” said Pink Heals chairman B.R. Wilson. “This is a time when we have experienced some large, unanticipated expenses, and these angels have turned out. I could not be any more appreciative.”
Wilson also thanked the city of Oxford, Oxford Health Systems paramedics, the Oxford Fire Department, and the Oxford Police Department for their assistance.
It was just as Police Chief Daniel Phipps ran by and gave Wilson a high-five that Wilson said next year’s event will feature a special friendly competition between the police and fire departments.
