CREATE, Oxford Middle show their stuff at Greenpower USA Grand Prix

Chocclocco Park put out the welcome mat for more than 50 of the most talented student teams from across the South as they put their creativity and ingenuity on the line for the Greenpower USA Grand Prix competition.

Competing in five different categories, the day-long event was held Friday, January 16, 2026.

This student-focused, electric car racing event is part of the Greenpower USA program, which challenges middle and high school students to design, build, and race an electric car and features multiple heats and an awards ceremony.

These races are part of the F24 category which hosts students in grades 6-12.

Oxford Middle School placed third in the F24 Intermediate Stock Division. In this division, the students build a car from a Greenpower USA kit.

The CREATE Center’s four teams won top prizes in three different categories.

CREATE came in first in the F24 Advanced Stock category using a Greenpower USA kit; third place in the F24 Advanced Modified category making modifications to a Greenpower USA kit; and second and third place in the F24 Advanced Custom category building the chassis from scratch.

The city of Oxford is proud to host this semiannual event as a way to encourage local students in their career education.

Special thanks go to the team at Choccolocco Park, the Oxford Public Works Department, the Oxford Fire Department, the Oxford Police Department, and the Oxford Health Systems EMS for their work coordinating the event and keeping everyone safe.
