Choccolocco Park Greenpower USA Green Prix crowns a CREATE champ

Choccolocco Park hosted the first of its two Greenpower USA Green Prix races for the 2025-2026 season on November 7, 2025, with the four teams from the CREATE Innovation and Technology Center bringing home three top placement awards and one championship banner.
This student-focused, electric car racing event is part of the Greenpower USA program, which challenges middle and high school students to design, build, and race an electric car and features multiple heats and an awards ceremony.
Three teams from Oxford Middle School added to the total of 62 teams and more than 600 participants who turned a portion of Oxford’s premier recreational venue into a semi-professional racetrack for the day-long event. Those numbers represented a significant increase in participation from the 48 teams in the October 2024 event.
This was the first year the original “Big O Racing” squad from Oxford High School fully embraced the CREATE name, as the center now hosts the Greenpower USA program and students from high schools across the region.
The CREATE racing crews won the F24 Advanced Stock championship banner, second place in the F24 Advanced Modified category, and second and third place in the F24 Advanced Custom category.
Mayor Alton Craft was on hand to wave the ceremonial green flag to start the races.
“Hosting these races brings a positive impact to our city by bringing all of the young folks here and shows we are working to enter the next century by supporting the education of these students who will continue to develop these new technologies,” Craft said.
“The Greenpower USA organizers and all our city departments have done such a fantastic job this year,” he added. “The track looks great, and seeing all these participants here is exciting. It energizes me to see all these young people and their equipment, along with their friends and families, here. This is a whole different level than the high school experience many of my age group remember.”
The second Choccolocco Park Greenpower USA Green Prix of the season is set for Friday, January 16, 2026.
